1.) what is meant by the term 'film distribution'?

Film distibutors make the public and target audience know about the film.


2.) What does a film distributor do?

  • A film disbributor has many roles. The roles include identifying its audience. By looking at the genre of the film and other aspects, they find who the audience of the film are. This helps when it comes to marketing because they know who to specifcally advertise to.
  • Concider why theyd go and see it.
  • estimating the revenue potenical across all the formats of its release.
  • Developing plans and partnerships to build awarness of and intserest on the film
  • aiming to convert as much interest as possible into cinema visits.
  • persuading exhibitors to play the film (cinema opertators)
Distributors share and discuss their release plans with:
  • film makers and producers who are likely yo have nurtured their projects for years through the development and production stages.
  • Cinema exhibitors who present the finished films on their screens
  • a host of external partners and suppliers such as publicists, designers and meida agencies.
1.) How does reach release relate to film distribution?

Reach means how many media platforms the film is promoted and advertised on. And this all comes down to finances. To advertise a film on large media platforms such as social networking sites, billboards, radio, tv trailers, bus posters etc this is very expensive but it advertises to a larger audience because its visible everywhere so if I film is advertised and promoted through smaller media platforms due to low finances, the film may not do as well because less people will see it promoted due to lack of sdvertising.

4.) What is meant by the marketing plan?

Every film has a detailed marketing plan. Film distributors use marketing objectives such as create visibilty, raise awareness and engage interest. A marketing plan helps come up with a budget for advertising. It also helps to know where to reach the target audience and how to. Some of the marketing materials are things such as posters, merchandise, trailers, social networking sites/ online and mobile etc
